When you are physically ill you turn to your doctor, hoping they can help you feel better. Problems like depression, anxiety, impulsivity, uncontrollable anger, or low self-confidence can be as painful, if not more so, than physical illness; they can also create serious relationship and work difficulties.
I have over 25 years of experience and I have helped many adults, adolescents, and couples who had received limited or no benefit from previous therapists, other doctors, or medications. I work well with people who are skeptical of, or intimidated by, talk therapy.
For the last 13 years I have been clinical faculty of the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where I teach medical doctors courses each year on counseling skills, personality types, and empirically-based talk therapy research. I work to help free individuals from fixed, long-standing, unsatisfying patterns of living.
After meeting for the first time, we should know if I can be of help to you. Men and women have benefitted from a few sessions with me, focused on immediate concerns. Others have sought longer-term experiences that markedly improved their overall wellbeing, productivity, and success in relationships and work.

Happy Clients
Engaging in therapy with Dr. Lowder has been one of the most meaningful and important decisions of my life. I experience Dr. Lowder as having a unique and rare ability for really understanding the heart of a matter, and he has been able to help guide and challenge me with a combination of helpful questions, ideas, active techniques, and a collaborative process of dialogue between us that has helped me transform my life in a host of ways.
ZocDoc review, September 2019
Dr. Lowder is experienced, kind and really good at what he does. I had seen a couple of other therapists over the years and got something from those experiences, but the 2 years I worked with Dr. Lowder were much more helpful. We were able to connect the dots and identify triggers to why I had so much social anxiety.

I'm not a hyperbolic person and I usually don't give out praise like it's candy on Halloween, but I seriously can't recommend Dr. Lowder enough. His steady handling of my depression and anxiety literally saved my life.
