Nothing is working out how you planned.
You used to feel good about yourself. But now you mostly feel lousy.
Sometimes, you can’t remember the last time you felt genuinely happy.
Frustrated about why you are struggling… why a relationship has gone wrong… why your work is not going as you would like.
When life feels out of control or empty…
… it can be daunting and overwhelming just to make it through the day.
Sleepless nights because your brain won’t turn off to give you a moment’s rest.
You’ve tried talking with friends or family members, but it didn’t help much.
You have a lot of insights about what isn’t working.
But that insight doesn’t allow you to stop behaving in ways that cause you trouble.
When you are physically ill, you turn to your doctor, hoping he or she can help you feel better.
Depression, anxiety, impulsivity, uncontrollable anger, or low self-confidence can be as painful, if not more so, than physical illness.
They can also create serious relationship and work difficulties.
Talking with a professional may seem frightening and foreign.
But if there is a good fit, talking with a professional could begin to bring you relief.
I give you credit for having the courage to recognize that you have problems. Such courage will serve you well as you begin to work toward solutions.
Talk therapy creates a calm and safe space for you to explore your issues, where you can feel understood and respected.
Therapy goals are different for every person.
But always at the core is the investment in emotional growth.
Talk therapy promotes knowing oneself better, feeling more emotionally vital, living more authentically, and striving for greater meaning and purpose in life.
Therapy is a proven treatment that has been around and researched for more than 100 years. It is a process that treats emotional suffering through an exploration of one’s inner world.
I can help you identify and work through unhealthy distortions in your perspectives that fuel your suffering.
About Me
Dr. Greg Lowder
I have over 25 years of experience, and I have helped many adults, adolescents, and couples who had received limited or no benefit from previous therapists, other doctors, or medications. My practical and collaborative approach has allowed me to work well with individuals who are skeptical of, or intimidated by, talk therapy.
For the last 13 years, I have been clinical faculty at the Weill Cornell Medical College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I teach medical doctors courses each year on counseling skills, personality types, and empirically based talk therapy research. I work to help free individuals from fixed, long-standing, unsatisfying patterns of living.
Our conversations can be illuminating – revealing the ways you feel bad about yourself, the ways you bring yourself down and scare yourself. Just discussing your issues out loud with me will feel like progress and can bring some relief.
Men and women have benefitted from a few sessions with me, focused on immediate concerns. Others have sought longer-term experiences that markedly improved their well-being, productivity, and success in relationships and work.
After meeting for the first time, we will know if I can be of help to you.
Happy Clients
Engaging in therapy with Dr. Lowder has been one of the most meaningful and important decisions of my life. I experience Dr. Lowder as having a unique and rare ability for really understanding the heart of a matter, and he has been able to help guide and challenge me with a combination of helpful questions, ideas, active techniques, and a collaborative process of dialogue between us that has helped me transform my life in a host of ways.
ZocDoc review, September 2019
Dr. Lowder is experienced, kind and really good at what he does. I had seen a couple of other therapists over the years and got something from those experiences, but the 2 years I worked with Dr. Lowder were much more helpful. We were able to connect the dots and identify triggers to why I had so much social anxiety.
ZocDoc review, March 2020
I'm not a hyperbolic person and I usually don't give out praise like it's candy on Halloween, but I seriously can't recommend Dr. Lowder enough. His steady handling of my depression and anxiety literally saved my life.
